Farms Food Fest
Sunday,
September 9, 2007
11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
As the seasons change, we're looking ahead to
the 6th Annual Small Farms Food Fest. We'll be hosting more delectable
foods from Vermont farms and food producers than ever before. And Nick's
pulling together a wonderful mix of musicians for the all-day music
line-up. The musical day is going to be fabulous. Musicians and performance
times include:
11:00 a.m. Hammer & Saw (all-girl, old-time music with clawhammer,
banjo, fiddle, and other instrumentation)
12:00 p.m. Red Thread (everything from Latin to Gypsy jazz to modern jazz)
1:00 p.m. Meat Packers (bluegrass, country, redneck)
2:00 p.m. Magnolias (country)
3:00 p.m. Barbara Wager & Robert Resnik (Shoo-fly pie and
Apple Pan Dowdy---rocking music about food)
4:00 p.m. Blue Norther (bluegrass)
5:00 p.m. Hibernators (bluegrass, swing)
The
following Vermont food producers coming to this year's Food Fest are
Amy's Granola, Jim Blais' chicken and water buffalo, Bloomfield Gardens,
Blue Ledge Farm (goat's milk cheeses), Bove's of Vermont, Charlotte Village
Winery, Dancing Cow Cheese Farm, Good Companion Bakery, Island Homemade
Ice Cream, Kingdom Mountain Maple, Lakes End Cheeses & Shoreline
Chocolates, Last Resort Farm, Maple Wind Farm (beef, pork, lamb and chicken),
Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA), Pizza on Earth,
Rockville Farm Market, Shelburne Farms (market garden and products) and
O'Bread Bakery, Shelburne Orchards (of course), Shelburne Vineyard, Sonia's
Salsa, Stony Loam Farm (CSA vegetable farm) , Stony Pond Farm (organic
beef), Taylor Farm, Vadeboncoeur Nougat, Vermont Coffee Company and Vermont
Soy.
Folks under the age of 12 or over the age of 65 get in free. Otherwise,
we ask that you purchase a $5 Pick Your Own coupon, valid for the '07
season. We're also collecting non-perishable food for the Chittenden
Emergency Food Shelf at the entrance gate. We ask that you leave your
pets at home. They'll be happier---and so will we.
We'll also have facepainting for the kids, tractor hayrides, Harry the
Party Donkey rides, Phinneus Sonin (circus arts instructor), Terry's
Handmade Picnic Table Raffle and our haybale maze. And you can always
go off and pick some apples, fresh from the orchard!
We'll be updating this year's festival details
as they roll in. Hope for spectacular weather and then join us in our
annual celebration of Vermont farms, food, and frivolity!
We're still looking for some more volunteers
for the Food Fest. If you'd like to lend a hand assisting with facepainting
or serving food or helping the bands set up or welcoming folks at the
entrance gates or directing cars or any of the other options, we'd
love to have you! Please contact Megan at 864-7528 or meganh@sover.net.
Thanks in advance!

6th
Annual Pie Fest & Cider House Run
Sunday, September 23, 2007
11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Come and run in the Cider House Run at 11:00 for the 2 or 4 mile run
or the 2 mile walk. You must register here.
And/or
enter a two-crusted apple pie in the Pie Fest. Entries must arrive
by 11:30, and because the number of entries are limited, you
must pre-register at meganh@sover.net or call 864-7528.
Here are the guidelines for the Pie Fest:
• The pie must be two-crusted and have only apples (no other fruit).
• Nuts may be included, but the pie must be labeled as such since we
will all be eating pies after they have been judged.
• You must arrive by 11:30 on Sunday to drop off your pie. Nick has
tightened up the rules by explaining that, if you are late, you may
be entered but may not win. No stragglers!
• Please label the bottom of the pie pan with your name if you would
like it back.
• We will have 30 entries, the limit for the Pie Fest. If you are past
participant and cannot make it this year, please let us know asap so
that someone else may have the
chance to enter.
We're thrilled to have Woody Woodhead & Henrik Bothe
performing at this year's Pie Fest! Veterans of film, television, radio
and the stage, Woody & Henrik
have performed for audiences on six continents. Their new show, “FOOLZ”,
is a character-driven amalgam of theater, music, comedy and juggling
that visually demonstrates the power of cooperation between two performers
with different dispositions.
Henrik Bothe, fluent in four languages, is a
Danish comic juggler with enormous dexterity and casual ease. His partner,
Woody Woodhead, weaves a tapestry of chaos, slapstick and ‘eclectic’ music
with the menacing uncertainty of a tornado.
Woody & Henrik’s signature grand
finale is a one of a kind, frenzied, frenetic juggle montage using
a consortium of absurd objects (apples, chairs, guitars, bird cages,
umbrellas, rubber chicken, etc.). Never two shows the same---expect
the unexpected!
Nick will also be available for a booksigning with the newly-released
Cooking with Shelburne Farms: Food and Stories from Vermont by
Melissa Pasanen & Rick Gencarelli. Nick's one of the folks featured
in the cookbook! Other family activities and foods will be available
from
11:30-4:00.
Pick Your Own Apples
Harvest Season (Late August to Late October)
Monday-Saturday 9am - 6pm, Sunday 9am - 4pm
Come visit us! We appreciate everyone
who buys locally and/or goes to a local orchard to pick fruit for
themselves. We do think, however, that our orchard is especially
spectacular. With a view of Lake Champlain, lots of apple varieties
available to pick, and the fact that the folks who work here are
just some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet, we encourage you
to come for a visit! And meeting Nick is totally worth the trip!
