Food Festival

5th Annual Small Farms Food Festival
Sunday, September 10th
11am - 5pm

We depend on volunteers at the Food Fest and would love to have you join in the fun! There are lots of opportunities to participate if you have a couple of hours: setting up, facepainting, helping out at the Shelburne Orchards food booth, helping to park cars and direct traffic, assisting folks as they get on and off the tractor hayrides, packing up and delivering Food Shelf donations, helping out at the compost/recycling station, cleaning up, filling in where needed...the options are endless. In return, you'll get a Shelburne Orchards T-shirt and the satisfaction of helping out at a wonderful event. Please contact Megan Humphrey at 864-7528 or meganh@sover.net if you're interested. And thank you in advance! This year's Volunteer Coordinators include Kate Maloney, Liz Jaquette, Emily Wexler, and Lee Wood. Nick and I want to thank them for all of their organizing and scheduling abilities!

For the first time, there will be an entrance fee for the Food Fest to help to cover some of the costs. Folks under the age of 12 and over the age of 65 will get in free. Otherwise, we request that each person purchase a $5 Pick Your Own Apples coupon---then you can come back at some point and pick apples in our gorgeous orchard (it certainly doesn't have to be on the day of the festival)! And, as in the past, each farm vendor may charge for the foods they've prepared.

We'll have live music all day! Here's the schedule:
11:00am- Hammer & Saw (all-girl, old-time music with clawhammer, banjo, fiddle, and other instrumentation)
12:00pm- Red Thread (everything from Latin to Gypsy jazz to modern jazz)
1:00pm - Meat Packers (bluegrass, country, redneck)
2:00pm - Blue Norther (bluegrass)
3:00pm - Barbara Wager & Robert Resnik (Shoo-fly pie and Apple Pan Dowdy---rocking music about food)
4:00pm - Silver Leviathan (eclectic brass)
5:00pm - Hibernators (bluegrass, swing)
6:00pm - Jugtown Pirates of Lake Champlain (jug, washboard, washtub basses, etc.)

Kids will have plenty to do, as well. We'll have tractor hayrides through the orchard, ropemaking demonstrations, the haybale maze back again this year, Juggling by Emmett Dooley at 1pm & 2pm, a mini-horse and cart, and Connie Compost and Reggie Recycle.

We'll be collecting nonperishable foods this year for local food shelves. The best items to bring would be tuna, peanut butter, cereal, soup, canned fruits and vegetables, and pasta. While we're all enjoying the fruits of local farms and food producers, we can contribute to folks who may need a little assistance.
